Recipes
from the Lilac Knoll kitchens

Grammy Rose's Molasses Cookies
Rose Powers baked these cookies in her Scipio Center kitchen. Her daughter Jane Cummings baked them in her King Ferry kitchen. Beverly Ludke now bakes them in the Lilac Knoll kitchen. This recipe has stood the test of time and the cookies are never around long enough to get stale.

Jane's Plain Chili Sauce
Don't let the fancy label fool you. The aroma of brown sugar, cinnamon, and vinegar simmering with ripe field tomatoes, onions, and bell peppers never fails to bring back sweet memories of this homemade favorite.

Aunt Mabel's BBQ Sauce
Mabel Ludke (Uncle Ed's wife) who was from the South (Louisiana, I want to say) would whip up this family favorite at the drop of hat. This sauce is perfect on chicken or ribs.

Marge's Turkey Dressing
A perennial family favorite each year at Thanksgiving. Forget the turkey. Stuff your guests with heaping helpings of Marge Ludke's signature dressing.

Beverly's Carrot Cake (NR)
Beverly Ludke does NOT make up recipes. She follows instructions to the letter with great care and attention to detail. However, she also does NOT like raisins. And so she modified this recipe by eliminating raisins and in so doing has earned the right to add her name to this carrot cake. For many years now this has been the house dessert at Lilac Knoll and the single most requested cake for family birthdays and holidays.
